Minor publications
The term “minor publications” includes printed specimens that generally have few pages, such as loose, diptic, leaflets, brochures (less than 50 pages), etc., which usually correspond to sheets, stamps, postcards, show or exhibition programmes, course programs, dividers, commercial catalogues, stories and children’s books with little text, comic books, entertainment guides, etc.
With the appearance of industrial printing in 1830, this type of publication multiplied exponentially, which was also reflected in the receipts by legal deposit in the BNE.
Starting in October 2010, this collection began to be catalogued briefly by year of legal deposit and within the year they have been classified according to the pre-established subjects listed below, so that they can be consulted.
The minor post-1831 publications are located in the warehouses of the BNE headquarters in Alcalá de Henares and, therefore, to consult them, they must be requested in the General Hall.
The minor publications prior to 1831 are individually catalogued and consulted in the Cervantes Room (for more details see the link below)
With regard to brochures for local festivals, which are of great interest to historical studies on a given municipality, they can be searched in the catalogue by the specific locality or by the Autonomous Community and the year of publication (which usually coincides with the year in which the festival took place), since both are in the register of cataloging.
