French-Dutch engraving

The collection of Flemish and Dutch prints from the National Library of Spain is very broad and of great relevance. All important artists are represented, both creators of loose engravings and illustrated books. And, in particular, the work corresponding to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries stands out for its technical quality and beauty.

Among the main artists is the work of Rembrandt and prints inspired by drawings by Rubens, whose works had a huge influence on the diffusion of his painting and on the contemporary artists. Likewise, it is worth mentioning the work of other authors such as Jan Lievens, Ferdinand Bol, Cornelis Visscher and Crispijn van de Passe, the elder. The religious theme is very common, but there are also numerous scenes of customs, mythology, landscapes and magnificent portraits. They mastered the burile technique and the aguafuerte of which they were masters.
